CNI Type 16 is a firm, porous composite of carbon fibers connected by a nanostructured carbon matrix. The properties of the material are close to those of a human bone. CNI Type 16 is used for osteosynthesis and is designed for full or partial replacement of intervertebral discs.
CNI Type 16 is indicated for use in intervertebral disc replacement for degenerative lesions thereof.
Based on a CT scan, the location of the pathologically altered disc is established. The vertebral arch is exposed through a posterior approach; a laminectomy is performed in order to access the degeneratively altered disc (PLIF), or a resection of intervertebral joints is carried out (TLIF).
Once the disc is removed, one of the implants chosen in the catalog is inserted into the resulting diastasis between the vertebrae; upon its fixation the wound is sutured.
